The West Indies have outperformed themselves at the ongoing T20 World Cup. They won all of their group stage games and have racked up eight points in the process before heading into the Super 8. The Windies will face off against India, South Africa and Zimbabwe in the final eight. They are the team to beat and have a huge statement of intent through their performances across the league.
Former Indian international and now commentator Aakash Chopra recently opened up about the clash between India and the West Indies that is scheduled to take place in Kolkata on March 1. Chopra shared a video on his YouTube channel and spoke about how good the Caribbean boys are and taking them lightly could be a huge mistake.
"I think the West Indies are actually a very good team. They have played many matches at the Eden Gardens as well. So they have a very good idea of that ground. The Eden Gardens pitch is generally very flat, although it hasn't been that flat thus far in the World Cup," said Chopra in his opening remarks.
He further added that the West Indies have a very good chance to qualify for the smei-final.
"I am not going to take them lightly at all. I feel the West Indies actually have a good chance to make it to the semi-finals. I would have been more bullish about this had they not been in our group," he equipped.
Chopra also highlighted the batting depth in West Indies’ batting unit and how good they are because they have defeated England and are yet to lose a game.
"There is depth in the batting order and everyone is in form as well. They are a damn good team. They have beaten England. They are undefeated. There is depth in the batting order and everyone is in form as well. Shai Hope has also regained his form by the end of the group stage," he added.
The cricket expert also mentioned about the firepower that the West Indies have in ranks.
"If you start from Shai Hope and they retain form till the end, the team becomes good from the batting point of view. Whether it's Romario Shepherd in the end, Shimron Hetmyer at the top, Rovman Powell, or Sherfane Rutherford, there is a lot of batting power," Chopra said.
He also added that India should beware of Roston Chase’s off spin.
"They have Jason Holder and Roston Chase as well. There is an off-spinner in Roston Chase, who can trouble us because we are having a few difficulties against off-spinners. He can also bowl with the new ball," he said.
