If only batting is needed to win the IPL as we know it, then perhaps several fans are missing the plot or shall we say, a team as talented and dangerous as the Sunrisers Hyderabad. That’s not randomspeak; that’s coming straight from an experienced former India cricketer Abhinav Mukund.

So the big point is, what did Mukund have to say in the context of the ever dangerous-with-the-bat SRH?

Abhinav Mukund has raised serious concerns about the squad balance of Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of IPL 2026, particularly highlighting the stark contrast between their batting and bowling units. He described the batting lineup as arguably the strongest in the competition, capable of dominating on flat Hyderabad pitches, but pointed out a dramatic drop-off when it comes to the bowling attack. According to him, such an imbalance makes the team vulnerable despite its explosive potential.

A major point of criticism was SRH’s auction strategy, especially their decision to spend ₹13 crore on Liam Livingstone.

Abhinav Mukund questioned the logic behind investing heavily in an overseas batting all-rounder when the team already boasts proven performers like Heinrich Klaasen, Travis Head, and Abhishek Sharma.

In his view, the funds could have been better utilized to strengthen the bowling department, which has been a consistent weakness over the past two seasons.

Mukund was particularly critical of the inexperience within SRH’s bowling lineup, noting that several players have not even established themselves at the domestic level, let alone in the IPL.

He suggested that the franchise has relied too heavily on scouting and untested talent, which may not hold up under pressure in a high-stakes tournament.

This lack of proven quality creates uncertainty, especially against strong batting sides.
