England will be up against India in the 2nd Semi-Final of the 2026 WT20. This match is set to be played at the Wankhede Stadium and there will be plenty on the line. These two sides know each other really well and have played quite often in the international circuit so there is no surprise element anymore. India are a really strong side in this format and to beat them, England will have to be tactically really good. However they will be facing a big big tactical dilemma for this India clash and in this article we look at those issues in detail.

Starting the innings with off-spinner Jacks for Abhishek or Archer against Samson.

This will be one of the biggest dilemma for England in their bowling innings. Sanju Samson who scored an unbeaten 97*against West Indies in the previous match does not have a good record against England pacer Jofra Archer. So far in this T20I career, Sanju Samson has been dismissed thrice by Jofra Archer in 23 balls while Samson has managed to score 25 runs at an average of 8.3 against Archer.

There is a clear weakness for Samson against Jofra Archer and this was highlighted in the previous bilateral series between India and England in January 2025 where Archer dismissed Samson a couple of times by bowling short balls. Keeping these things in mind England would have to decide whether to go with Archer in the first over.

Another match up will be starting with off-spinner Will Jacks for Abhishek. It is no secret that Abhishek Sharma has not had a good tournament so far and he has struggled a lot against off-spinners in this WT20. He was dismissed for a duck against Salman Agha and in the match against Netherlands, off-spinner Aryan Dutt removed him cheaply. West Indies started the innings with left arm spinner Akeal Hosein who also managed to get the wicket of Abhishek. One thing has been clear that he has had his struggles against spinners in the powerplay and that is an area England could target him.

Will Jacks did bowl with the new ball against Sri Lanka and was effective. Jofra Archer so far in this WT20 has been given the first over but if Abhishek Sharma takes strike, they could ponder giving it to Will Jacks. This is a really good match up and England will have to decide which way to go.
