India who became the first ever team to win back to back T20 World Cups earlier this year have retained their Number 1 position in the annual ICC Men’s T20I Team Ranking.

The latest rankings rate all matches played from May 2025 at 100 per cent and those of the previous two years at 50 per cent criteria. India currently have 275 points, and see extend their lead over England (262 points) while Australia are at the third place with 258 points.

This does not come as a surprise as India have won the 2024 WT20 and also the 2026 WT20 and in between have done very well in the bilateral series. Under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, India have managed to maintain their top spot as they continue to dominate the T20I ranking. India won the 2026 World T20 as they lost only one game in the entire tournament.

Top Seven teams retain their spots

The top seven ranked teams in the Men’s Rankings are unchanged with New Zealand being the fourth with 247 points followed by South Africa (244 points), Pakistan (240) and West Indies (233). Sri Lanka have slipped to the ninth spot, while Bangladesh (225 points) who gained one point in the update rankings are at eighth. Afghanistan are at 10th with 220 points, while Zimbabwe and Ireland also retain their rankings at 11th and 12th.  

USA make big gains, 4 teams lose out on T20I status

Among other sides, the United States of America have made big gains as they have gone two spots up and are currently 13th in the rankings going past Netherlands and Scotland. Also in the latest update the number of teams in the ICC T20I rankings is down from 102 to 98 as Fiji, Gambia, Greece and Israel didn’t make the cut as they did not play the requisite eight T20Is in the past three years.
