Indian T20I captain Shreyas Iyer lauded the Indian contingent’s performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026. Iyer took to X and praised how Indian athletes, especially the boxing, delivered a remarkable performance and brought laurels to the country. Notably, the Indian unit consisting of 122 athletes, including stars like Mirabai Chanu, Neeraj Chopra and Lovlina Borgohain, won 39 medals at the quadrennial tournament to finish fourth on the points tally. Only Australia, England and Canada finished ahead of the Indian team with 170, 110, and 62 medals, respectively.

As the contest came to its business end in Glasgow on Sunday, Iyer took to X and lauded the Indian athletes. He tweeted, “What a Commonwealth Games for Team India!

It is to be noted that the Indian boxing team is coming home with 10 medals including seven gold and three silver. With this haul, they surpassed their previous best of nine boxing medals at the 2018 edition.
Shreyas Iyer to be in action in Asian Games 2026
The newly-appointed Indian T20I captain will be back in action during the Asian Games 2026. Iyer, who got off to his captaincy stint on a disappointing note and recorded his first win at the helm after eight games during Zimbabwe series, would aim to extend his streak at the continental tournament. The upcoming contest will kick off on September 19 and conclude on October 4 in Aichi Prefecture in Japan. However, the tournament will clash with India’s three-ODI series against the West Indies between September 27 and October 3.
