When we talk of the Indian Premier League, clearly speaking, the most popular opinion that most fans have - and they ever be even doubted- is that several of India’s own homegrown talents, whether Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli or MS Dhoni have created a lasting impression. Surely, they are greats and will be. But can anyone doubt or even entertain an iota of a doubt where it comes to the sheer magnificence of several foreign players, some of which made six hitting a pure sight and a reason to look forward to the IPL. Perhaps not, right?
So having said that, let’s look at the 5 foreign players to hit most IPL sixes:
Chris Gayle First, the man. Second, his deed. Rather the incredible deed!
357 sixes- which happens to be an all-time IPL record!
The fiery and lanky Jamaican last played the IPL in the 2021 season, wherein he was part of the Kings Eleven Punjab team.
But for the times that he played the IPL and played it for over a decade, he was the quintessential entertainer, a free spirited wild beast with the cricket bat and a performer who excelled with unfettered quality. Gayle in form was box office delight in the Indian Premier League.
AB de Villiers
251 sixes.
What a legend. A hero. A cult figure. You can go and on!
The fearless genius actually admitted that he found in India, not just a second home but became for his dazzling ball-smashing abilities, a hero that could be compared to Kohli by all counts or standards.
The dazzling Protea legend, a great of the game and there can’t even be a dispute on his iconic status, last played the IPL in the 2021 season.
That is something that the great De Villiers and Gayle have in common. David Warner
The famous Australian batter, who most notably has also hit a dazzling Test match triple ton, ended his IPL journey with 236 sixes. His last active season as an IPL contestant was the 2024 edition.
Although, he’s still quite active on the franchise circuit but perhaps it’s best to contend with the fact that the dynamo with the bat may never again been seen in the Indian Premier League.
Andre Russell
He made six hitting a sight, in fact, quite a sight with 223 sixes against his name.
As a matter of fact, Russell gained notoriety for destroying the best of bowlers and was dubbed “Muscle Russell” for his towering abilities with the bat and for scoring much needed runs when they were keenly sought down the order. Most of the fans would contend with Andre Russell’s status as a bonafide KKR legend.
The 2025 edition of the IPL was Russell’s last as he’s announced that his time as an active participant in the famous franchise league is now done. Kieron Pollard
The mighty Trinidadian stands level with the mighty Jamaican muscle Russell for hitting 223 sixes, the fourth highest six hitting tally in the Indian Premier League.
Pollard’s raw power and the ability to clear the gaps with sedate ease on either side of he ground or wicket made him a special figure, more of a cult-like persona in the IPL and his doting contributions for the Mumbai Indians shall be treasured for times to come. What do you reckon! 223 sixes isn’t a joke.
