It’s too early to say, at least at this point in time, that he is back to his best. A bit premature maybe where it stands at the moment. Nonetheless, the manner and approach in which one of England’s national treasures, Jos Buttler notched up his half century in this edition of the IPL, a first for him this season, really inspires confidence.

The brisk run scoring rate. The timing and the use of the long levers- in his gritty and resourceful 52- were all evident.

That’s not to say that Buttler prior to his 52 as seen just moments ago today, hadn’t looked the part. He seemed in fine touch against Punjab (in what was GT’s campaign opener) when he made a solid 38. Then, he scored another fluent knock of 26 that came against the Jofra Archer powered Rajathan Royals. But still, one desperately waited for that typical characteristically gritty and flamboyant half century from one of the most trusted and truly illustrious bats in all of the IPL.

And then, as one sees, cometh the hour and there we saw it- Cometh that man!

Against a powerful and sorted Delhi Capitals bowling attack featuring not just Axar Patel but even Mukesh Kumar, the great Jos Buttler fired 52 immensely valuable runs.

Furthermore, the fact that his maiden IPL fifty run knock came off just 27 odd deliveries further highlighted the fact that there seems to be a shift in the approach and timing of Buttler’s run scoring.

For a quality batter of his redoubtable repute and credibility, runs had been hard to come by for one of England cricket’s best ever lads.

Sadly, he had a draught in terms of run scoring in the recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and was even found to be seeming rusty and maybe even lacking in confidence.

But finally, after weeks of trying, after those commendable long hours of grinding in the nets, it appears as though that the Jos Buttler of the old is back in the “now!”

No one’s complaining. Not Shubman Gill. Not Gujarat Titans’ fans. But one’s not sure about the best of the bowlers out there competing in the most prestigious and illustrious franchise based T20 tournament.

The 35-year-old is showing signs of great batting prowess and he’ll hold his most recent exploits with the bat as a customary template to deliver more excellent results in what’s to come ahead for his franchise in the games that are to follow.

We wish the incredible Jos Buttler some heavy run scoring in what lies ahead!
