Kemar Roach reached his 300th Test wicket on 28 June 2026, during the fourth day of the opening Test match against Sri Lanka at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. Going into Day 4 of the first Test, Roach had 296 career wickets to his name. With Sri Lanka forced to follow on after a mammoth first-innings deficit of 318 runs, Roach and his fellow seamers tore through the batting order on a surface where they generated incredible late movement. Roach set the tone in the very first over of the day, trapping opener Nishan Madushka lbw with a sharp, swinging delivery which became his 297th wicket. He continued to dismantle Sri Lanka's top and middle order, exploiting late inswing to right-handers and completed his 298th and 299th wicket.
Directly after the lunch session, Roach bowled from wide of the crease and fired a blistering, full delivery that clattered into number 10 batsman Asitha Fernando’s stumps and the West Indies player completed his historic 300th Test wicket. The moment sparked raw emotion on the field. Roach openly teared up as he was mobbed by his teammates. During the post-match celebrations, his young teammate Jayden Seales presented him with a special West Indies commemorative jersey marked with the number "300". Roach’s milestone did not only mean a historic feat for him but also for West Indies cricket, as it also marked a 29 year drought for the country who hadn't seen such a performer after Sir Curtly Ambrose in July 1997.

Who is Kemar Roach? West Indian player who ended 29 year drought for West Indian cricket
Kemar Roach is a legendary West Indian cricketer and one of the finest fast-medium bowlers of his generation. Born in Barbados in 1988, he debuted internationally in 2008 and quickly became the spearhead of the West Indies pace attack. In his early career, Roach was a tearaway fast bowler capable of crossing speeds of 150 km/h. However, following severe ankle and shoulder injuries, he remarkably reinvented himself. He evolved from a raw speedster into a highly skilled, intelligent master of swing, line, and length. This tactical transition extended his career longevity and cemented his reputation as a lethal weapon, particularly in home conditions.
In June 2026, Roach etched his name into cricket history during a Test match against Sri Lanka in Antigua. By clean-bowling Asitha Fernando, he claimed his 300th Test wicket, breaking a 29-year drought for West Indies cricket. He became only the fifth bowler from the West Indies, and the first since Sir Curtly Ambrose in 1997 to reach this elite milestone. This achievement places him alongside iconic legends like Courtney Walsh, Malcolm Marshall, and Lance Gibbs.Known for his immense resilience, work ethic, and fierce determination, Roach has served as a vital mentor to a new generation of West Indian fast bowlers like Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph. Today, he stands as a modern great and an enduring icon of Caribbean cricket resilience.
