377 runs, from just 9 matches, a brilliant orange cap win at the end of the day and most importantly, a huge contribution towards her team’s most recent WPL title triumph; Smriti Mandhana has been witnessing a sensational high for a reason. And truth be told; all her arduous efforts and timely ones at that have helped push the RCB women to a position of absolute authority and pure domination. Her victory, however, aren’t just hers; they belong to each one of those who have believed in- and backed- women’s cricket and the cause of the RCB in Women’s Premier League. Something that was hearteningly expressed most recently over social media by Mrs Virat Kohli: Anushka Sharma. But how?
Following Royal Challengers Bangalore Women’s second title triumph in the recently concluded Women’s Premier League, a heartwarming moment off the field caught fans’ attention. After leading her side to another memorable victory, RCB captain Smriti Mandhana shared a celebratory post on social media, proudly holding the WPL trophy and soaking in the historic achievement. Among the many congratulatory messages, one that stood out came from actor Anushka Sharma, who replied to Mandhana’s post by calling her a “queen” and expressing her admiration. The simple yet powerful comment quickly went viral, resonating with fans across cricket and entertainment circles. It highlighted the growing respect and visibility women’s cricket now enjoys in India.
Here's the tweet
RCB Women’s second title not only underlined their dominance in the league but also reinforced Mandhana’s stature as one of the leading faces of the sport.
Anushka’s public appreciation added a special touch to the celebrations, symbolising support for women athletes and their rising influence on and off the field.
On her part, Anushka has always been appreciative of the women’s game and was seen elated back in the day when the project was announced. She’s also been part of a credible effort to up the cause of the women’s game by starring in a wonderful biopic based on the gutsy life of fast bowling legend, Jhulan Goswami.
The very fact that no other team has - thus far- won two crowns ever since the inception of the tournament in 2023 goes a long way to define the brilliance and consistency of the RCB. And where it stands at the moment, then truth be told, they have only furthered the mantle of consistency and excellence on the 22 yards in this elite franchise based tournament. What do you reckon? Kudos to Smriti and her warriors.
