The Gujarat Titans were put out to bat first and they put up a total of 210 after the 20 overs, leaving the Delhi Capitals with a mountain to climb. Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul had opened the innings for the side, putting up a well-constructed partnership in the powerplay. KL Rahul was able to switch gears quickly and take his side forward, despite losing his opening partner at the other end.
KL Rahul Ignites Chase with Sudden Acceleration After Steady Start for Delhi Capitals
KL Rahul looked like a man on a mission today as he failed to score in his opening two games against the Lucknow Supergiants and Mumbai Indians. Rahul started off his innings striking at just above 130 and he provided support to Pathum Nissanka at the other end. When the wicket of Nissanka fell, Rahul’s score was at 33 off 25 balls, striking at just 132. While chasing a total of 211 and especially while opening the innings in the modern day game, Rahul was way off track. The wicket of Nissanka flicked a switch in KL Rahul and he smashed 20 runs in his next four balls to get to his half-century, striking at 182.

The Indian wicketkeeper batter will be might pleased with his knock as he was returning to T20 cricket after almost a year and his last two innings disappointed the fans. At this point in the chase, the Delhi Capitals will be praying that KL Rahul can stay at the crease as long as possible. Rahul has finished games for Delhi Capitals in the previous season and proved to be a reliable middle-order batter for the side. He has been handed a different role this time out, by giving him a chance to open for the side. If there is anyone in that Delhi Capitals batting unit that can stay till the end and take the team across the line at the end, it has to be KL Rahul.
