The entire focus of the cricketing community, perhaps it’s fair to say, rests with the India tour to Sri Lanka at the moment as far as the current assignment of the Indian side is concerned. This is actually a very important time for Indian cricket and not just because someone as exceptional as Jasprit Bumrah is injured(and hence, unavailable on this tour) or for that matter that the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli no longer play Test match Cricket!

As a matter of fact, owing to the importance of India and its standing in the current World Test Championship, the current tour to Sri Lanka becomes significantly important. India have to not only win this tour away from home but as a matter of fact have to also do well in their next forthcoming Test battles, some of which will be against the likes of the Proteas.

The importance of this tour

Having said that, a lot on this tour will come to rely on the emphatic talent of its wonderful batters, two of which are absolutely critical for this series, such as KL Rahul and Captain, Shubman Gill.

And where it comes to the two match series, an important precursor to the contests is in the form of the practice match that actually began from the onset of August 6, i.e., Friday.

But then having said that, an important talking point for this particular match was the very fact that the person who is currently leading Team India isn’t their usual captain, Gill. In fact, it’s the Test veteran KL Rahul who is leading the side at the moment.

One might wonder why’s that the case?

For this 3-day warm up match against Sri Lanka XI at Colombo, KL Rahul took over the captaincy role for the very simple reason that regular Test captain Shubman Gill experienced a strain in his finger. The classy right handed batter suffered an impact injury to his right ring finger during the match practice.

And due to this reason, it was KL Rahul who was seen at the time of the toss earlier today against the hosts, Sri Lanka XI. At the moment, it is believed that Shubman Gill is recovering under the supervision of the medical team. May he get fit just in time for the first ball of the forthcoming opening test.
