Kumar Sangakkara has come out strongly in support of Riyan Parag during IPL 2026, saying the young batter is still the right person to lead Rajasthan Royals.

Parag faced criticism during different stages of the season because of Rajasthan Royals’ inconsistent performances and pressure situations in key matches. However, Sangakkara made it clear that the franchise fully trusts the youngster and believes he can grow into a successful captain in the future.

The RR coach explained that leadership is not only about winning matches but also about handling pressure, supporting teammates, and continuing to improve in difficult situations.

According to Sangakkara, very few young players receive the kind of criticism Parag has faced this season. He said modern cricket, especially the IPL, brings huge pressure and expectations, particularly for young Indian captains.

Despite the outside criticism, Rajasthan Royals still managed to qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs. Sangakkara pointed to this achievement as proof that the team is moving in the right direction under Parag’s leadership.

The former Sri Lankan captain also praised Parag’s attitude and work ethic throughout the season. He mentioned that the young batter continues to improve every year and has shown maturity both on and off the field.

Parag has been part of Rajasthan Royals for several seasons and has slowly become one of the important players in the squad. Over the years, he has improved his batting, match awareness, and confidence under pressure.

Sangakkara also highlighted the importance of experienced players inside the dressing room. Senior cricketers like Jofra Archer have helped support younger players and maintain a positive team environment during challenging moments.

The RR management appears focused on building a long-term project around young players, and Parag remains an important part of those plans.

With Rajasthan Royals now entering the playoffs, Parag will have another opportunity to prove himself as captain and help his team compete for the PL 2026 title.
