During a local cricket match in Andhra Pradesh, an umpire was stabbed to death following a dispute that occurred over a runout decision. The victim, Dola Ajith Babu and his friend Budumuri Chiranjeevi were the officials for the game, and the fight broke out between players from different localities, which was also solved in the ground itself by the village elders. However, the accused, Kanta Kishore, had stabbed the officials after the game due to the same earlier dispute, and it is reported that he was intoxicated by alcohol.
The 21-year-old cricket umpire was officiating a game on Sunday evening at a local ground where there were three teams participating. The runout decision is what infuriated both teams, and the abuse was hurled at the umpires for their poor officiating. After the arguments on the field were sorted by Ajith Babu and Chiranjeevi, the spectators got involved unnecessarily and caused the attack.
Accused lures umpires post-match and launches planned knife attack
"In the match, there was an argument over one run. The argument became heated, and the person who attempted the murder was not a cricket player. He is a resident of Vinayak Nagar. He came in between the argument and used abusive words, which led to a serious argument between both teams. Later, village elders came and settled the issue there itself. After everything, in the evening, they were under the influence of alcohol and planned this attack. He carried a knife in his pocket and came to the Padigadli junction and called Chiranjeevi," told the victim’s brother.
After the game, Kishore called the umpires to a place away from the ground to settle the issue that had happened on the field. But a fight broke out once again, and this time, Kishore came with a knife. The motive of the murder remains unclear, as he wasn’t even a player, but rather a mere spectator of the game. The accused planned the attack and stabbed Ajith Babu in his chest, and Chiranjeevi, who tried to escape, also sustained injuries along with another man who also intervened in the fight. It was later understood that the accused had consumed alcohol and that the attack was planned.
Following the unfortunate incidents, the victim’s father, Dola Appala Raju, filed a case against the accused, and the police registered a murder case under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A search has also been launched to trace the accused, as it is reported that Kishore has gone into hiding.
