Mumbai Indians all-rounder Mitchell Santner took a stunning diving catch to dismiss Kartik Sharma in a high-stake MI vs CSK clash. Both teams came against each other in the 33rd game of the IPL 2026 at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, April 23. The game saw home skipper Hardik Pandya win the toss and invite the rivals to put the score on the board first. Chennai got off to a disappointing start, and lost skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad at 22 runs.

During a poor batting show from the entire batting order except Sanju Samson, Kartik Sharma was caught out by Mitchell Santner. On the fifth ball of the 17th over, Kartik Sharma whipped a Jasprit Bumrah full toss towards deep square leg. The Kiwi player, standing there, dived on his front to pull a good low catch. However, Santner ended up hurting his left shoulder while doing so, and walked out of the field due to the same.

Sanju Samson anchors CSK’s innings after rest of the batters fail

Chennai Super Kings, who were missing their beloved ‘Thala’ former skipper, MS Dhoni, for yet another game, got off to a disappointing start. They lost their skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad off 22 runs in 14 balls, and that was just the beginning. Sarfaraz Khan departed at 14, while Shivam Dube could only manage to score 5 runs. Apart from them, Dewald Brevis, Kartik Sharma, Jamie Overton and Akeal Hosein scored 21, 18, 15, and 2* runs, respectively.

However, Samson, who opened with Gaikwad, stood till the end, and came up with his fifth IPL ton and second of the season. He reached the milestone on the last ball of the innings and hit a four off a Krish Bhagat delivery. The former RR skipper utilized 54 deliveries and hit 10 boundaries and six maximums to push the team’s total to 207 runs with 6 wickets lost.
