Lucknow Super Giants’ fast-bowler hit a last-ball six to guide the clash against Kolkata Knight Riders to the first super over of the season. Both sides were up against each other in the second game of Sunday, April 26, at Ekana Stadium, Lucknow. Batting first, the Knight Riders managed to put up an average 155 with the loss of seven wickets, owing to the lethal bowling attack of the hosts, yet Rinku Singh’s 83* off 51. The KKR batter hit seven boundaries and five maximums to help the side post a decent total.

Considering how the Super Giants took control of the game, it seemed that they had almost put an end to their four-game losing streak and recorded their third win of the season. However, the three-time champions clawed back into the game with their bowling attack, dismantling LSG’s top and middle batting order within 18 overs. However, just when things had gotten out of hand for the hosts, the likes of Himmat Singh, George Linde and Shami pushed the side near the total and bridge the gap.

When the Sanjiv Goenka-owned side was in need of seven runs on the last ball, Shami came to the rescue for the side. The speedster hit a mammoth six off Kartik Tyagi delivery to tie the game and force a Super Over, the first of the season. This marked the fifth incident for the KKR when any of their games got tied, and first such instance for the Red and Blue brigade.

KKR bowlers concede one run in Super Over

After the thrilling finish of the game, drama got more intensified in the Super Over, when the KKR bowlers conceded just one run against LSG. The home team sent Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran in the middle, but what was lying ahead of them was Sunil Narine’s absolute destruction through the ball. The opening ball of the Super Over saw Narine bowling out Pooran.

Rishabh Pant came in next and hit one, the only run the home team could manage to get in the extra time. However, on the third and the final ball, Narine ended up dismissing Markram, owing to another splendid catch by Rinku Singh. In return, Singh finished the game by hitting a four off Prince Yadav delivery, and guided the side to their second win of the season.
