Former Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni was seen travelling with the team to Hyderabad ahead of their upcoming clash against the SunRisers Hyderabad on Saturday. There have been rumors that despite recovering from the calf injury and resuming his batting, MS Dhoni would miss the southern derby clash against the Orange Army. MS Dhoni’s availability in the match still remains uncertain as he has not received the fitness clearance from the franchise doctors.

According to reports, the veteran player will be seen on the field in the IPL Classico against the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede on April, 23. The team, being led by the skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, though now have a replacement for Dhoni in form of the recent centurion Sanju Samson, who is keeping the wickets for the team. The South-African prodigy, Dewald Brevis who missed the initial matches because of a side strain has made a comeback with a gritty knock against the KKR which led to the Super Kings’ victory. This was also their second victory after losing three matches and then making a comeback against the Delhi Capitals.

CSK makes a comeback to IPL 2026

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are currently mounting a significant mid-season comeback in IPL 2026, having secured two consecutive wins after a rocky start where they lost their first three matches. Led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, the team has moved up to 8th position on the points table with 4 points from 5 games. The "Yellow Army" is regaining its classic "comeback team" reputation. After early losses to RR, PBKS, and RCB, they found their rhythm in back-to-back home victories at Chepauk against DC and the Kolkata Knight Riders.

The biggest news for fans is the imminent return of MS Dhoni. The 44-year-old missed the first five matches due to a calf strain. Reports indicate he is nearing full fitness and taking a final call on April 16.While he has travelled for the SRH match (April 18), many sources point to a major return for the high-voltage "IPL El Clasico" against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede on April 23. The team recently lost pacer Khaleel Ahmed to a season-ending quadriceps injury. Nathan Ellis is also out, replaced by Spencer Johnson.
