The 2026 T20 World Cup has already come in with multiple surprises and shockers, but the latest one is the participation of Oman’s Aamir Kaleem at the competition. The 44-year-old became the oldest player ever to feature at the World Cup when he took to the pitch against Zimbabwe.

He has set a new benchmark for the generations to come by maintaining match-fitness and his passion for the game despite turning 44. The T20 World Cup is often associated with youth, hunger and aggression, but Kaleem’s participation has changed the narrative. He was born in November, 1981 and has gone on to represent Oman at multiple international competitions like the Asia Cup and the World Cup.

This highlights his longevity and impact in a career spanning over decades. Interestingly, the 44-year-old wasn’t a part of Oman’s plans when they first qualified for the World Cup. Kaleem came in as a replacement for the outgoing Hassnain Shah just before the tournament kicked off its proceedings. While so many players opt for a retirement during their early or late 30s, Kaleem is writing a story of his own.

He is said to be actively taking part in Oman’s day-to-day affairs on and off the pitch.

A left-arm batter and slow left-arm orthodox bowler by trade, Kaleem has played a lot of domestic and international cricket for Oman. He is an influential figure in the dressing room and is known for his experience. Kaleem has played 15 ODIs and 55 T20 internationals for Oman while scoring 883 runs combined. His highest score came against the USA when he scored 72 not out during a three match series.

Interestingly, he has also scored a half-century against India during the 2025 Asia Cup. Kaleem has maintained an economy rate of 3.61 in ODIs while taking 18 wickets in 15 matches. In T20Is, he has racked up 48 wickets with an economy rate of 7.56.
