On this day, April 28, 2023: Marcus Stoinis all-round show as Lucknow Super Giants beat Punjab Kings. It was the 38th match of the IPL 2023 season with Lucknow Super Giants taking on Punjab Kings. LSG were batting first and Mayers started things off really well and put on a 41 run opening partnership with KL Rahul. LSG lost their first wicket as KL Rahul was dismissed for 12 runs. Mayers continued to counter attack as LSG scored more than 70 runs in the power play.

Kyle Mayers was dismissed for 43 runs from just 24 balls as LSG lost their second wicket with 73 runs on the board. Marcus Stoinis joined Ayush Badoni at the crease and the duo put up a massive partnership. Ayush Badoni made 43 before getting dismissed as LSG were 173/3 at the 14th over and were well ahead of the game with an excellent run rate. Nicholas Pooran came to the middle and continued playing his shots as LSG piled up plenty of runs.

Lucknow Super Giants finished with 257/5 at the end of the first innings with Marcus Stoinis scoring 72 while Pooran played a cameo of 45 runs. It was a very good performance from the LSG batters and they had completely dominated the game. Chasing the target, Punjab Kings lost their opener Shikhar Dhawan in the first over of the innings and it was a big blow to them. Prabhsimran Singh also lost his wicket as PBKS were two down in four overs.

Atharva Taide and Sikandar Raza put up an excellent partnership to bring Punjab Kings back in the game. Atharva Taide went past a half century while Raza scored 36 runs. Jitesh Sharma and Sam Curran played cameos lower down the order but it was not enough as Punjab Kings were bowled out for 201 and LSG won the game comfortably. Stoinis was the player of the match for his brilliant all-round show as he scored 72 runs and also picked up one wicket.
