On this day, May 20, 2023: Chennai Super Kings beat Delhi Capitals by 77 runs as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway put up a masterclass. It was the 67th match of the season played between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Chennai Super Kings were batting first and the openers started really well. Both CSK openers were aggressive in the powerplay and took the game away completely. They put up 52 runs at the end of six overs without losing a wicket and the platform was set.

Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad accelerated in the middle overs and put up a massive 141 run partnership for the first wicket as both batters went past their half centuries. Ruturaj Gaikwad was the first to be dismissed as he fell for 71 runs from 50 balls as KKR picked up a crucial wicket. Shivam Dube was promoted up the order and played a brilliant cameo of 22 runs from just nine balls while Devon Conway smashed 87 runs from 52 balls and got dismissed.

Chennai Super Kings finished with 222/3 at the end of the first innings and it was a very good total on that surface. Chasing the target, Delhi Capitals lost the wicket of Prithvi Shaw in the second over and were in early trouble. David Warner started brilliantly and counter attacked but Salt and Rossouw both lost their wickets in consecutive balls as Delhi Capitals were reduced to 26/3.

Deepak Chahar was excellent with the new ball picking up three wickets. David Warner went past a half century and kept Delhi Capitals in the game but he did not get support from the other end. Warner scored 86 before getting dismissed and Delhi Capitals finished with 146/9 at the end of the match falling short by 77 runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad was the player of the match for his half century and also taking two brilliant catches.
