On this day, February 7,2014: Perth Scorchers win their maiden BBL Title. As of 2026, Perth Scorchers are the most successful team in the history of BBL and have the most titles among any teams in the franchise circuit. But it all started back in 2014. Perth had no title to show for but that night in 2014 was the sign of things to come. Perth Scorchers were batting first and put up 191/4 on the board. Perth Scorchers captain, Simon Katich was the first wicket to go as he was dismissed cheaply.

But Craig Simmons and Shaun Marsh stitched together a wonderful partnership of 66 runs but soon Craig Simmons departed and the score was 77/2 in 10.2 overs. The scoring rate was a touch slower and at the tenth over mark, Perth Scorchers looked slightly behind the game.

Adam Voges came in and played a good cameo of 27 runs of 17 balls. When he was dismissed, the score was 140/3 and in came Mitch Marsh with just under four overs left in the innings. Mitch Marsh played an outstanding knock and ended up with 37 runs of just 12 balls. Shaun Marsh meanwhile completed his half century as Perth Scorchers ended the first innings with a massive score of 191/4. It was scintillating acceleration from the batters in the final stage of the innings. It was an above par total on that surface.

In reply, Hobart Hurricanes lost a few wickets early and the required run rate kept climbing. It became a very tough ask but Hobart captain George Bailey scored a half century and kept the hopes alive. But he did not get any support and wickets kept falling at the other end as Perth Scorchers closed out the game very well.

Hobart Hurricanes ended with 152/7 and Perth Scorchers won the match by 39 runs and clinched their first ever BBL title. This win set up for the sign of things to come and currently they are six-time BBL champions and won the title in 2026. It was a very memorable day for Perth on this day almost a decade back.
