On this day, March 17, 2010: Sachin Tendulkar stars as Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Daredevils. It was the clash between Mumbai Indians and Delhi in the ninth match of the IPL 2010 and Mumbai Indians were batting first. Sanath Jayasuriya and Sachin walked out to open for the Mumbai Indians and it was Sachin who took on the bowlers straight away. They added 38 runs for the opening wicket partnership before Sanath Jayasuriya was dismissed for seven. Mumbai Indians were going at a good run rate and Aditya Tare was the second to depart with the score being 74. It was a tricky situation and the match was in the balance.

Sachin Tendulkar blazed his way to a quick-fire half-century and had scored 63 runs of just 32 balls before getting dismissed. It was a terrific knock from the master blaster and it included eleven fours. He ensured that Mumbai Indians were in a dominant position. Saurabh Tiwary carried on and scored a half century while Ambati Rayudu played a cameo of 34 runs as Mumbai Indians posted a total of 218/7 in the first innings.

Mumbai Indians were right on top at the end of the first innings, largely due to half centuries from Saurabh Tiwary and Sachin Tendulkar. When it came to the Delhi bowlers everyone was expensive but Mahroof picked up two wickets despite going for plenty of runs. It was going to be an uphill task for Delhi in the chase.

Chasing the target, Delhi Daredevils were bowled out for 120 and it was a massive win for the Mumbai Indians as they won the match by 98 runs and secured a huge NRR boost. Sachin Tendulkar was the player of the match for his outstanding knock that set the tone to the innings and it was a memorable day for the fans who were present at the stadium.
