On this day, May 3, 2022: Punjab Kings beat Gujarat Titans as Kagiso Rabada steals the show. It was the 48th match of the Indian Premier League 2022 between Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings at the DY Patil Stadium. Gujarat Titans were batting first and lost the wicket of Shubman Gill early. Saha and Sai Sudharshan built a small partnership before Saha was dismissed via run out as Gujarat were in early trouble with 34/2 at the end of four overs.
Hardik Pandya could not make an impact as he was dismissed cheaply. David Miller and Sai Sudharshan consolidated the innings but once again just as a partnership was building, Punjab Kings were able to pick up wickets. Miller lost his wicket at a crucial phase. Sai Sudharshan made a composed half century despite not getting much support from the other end. Kagiso Rabada picked up four wickets as Gujarat Titans were restricted to 143/8 at the end of the first innings. It was an excellent performance by the Punjab bowlers.
Chasing the target, Punjab Kings lost the wicket of Jonny Bairstow early as they were 10/1 and Gujarat Titans were right in the game. Shikhar Dhawan along with Bhanuka Rajapaksa put up a terrific partnership and scored runs quickly as Punjab Kings cruised along. Rajapaksa departed for 40 runs from just 28 balls but the damage was already done as Punjab were in very good position.
Liam Livingstone provided the finishing touches as he smashed an unbeaten 30 runs from 10 balls to ensure Punjab Kings chased down the target in just 16 overs. Shikhar Dhawan was unbeaten on 62 as Punjab Kings put up a comprehensive performance to clinch a win. Kagiso Rabada was the player of the match for his terrific performance.
