
On this day, March 4,2025: India beat Australia by four wickets in the semi-final of the Champions Trophy 2025. Virat Kohli, the chase master was once again the star of the show as India chased down a target of 265 with four wickets spare. Australia were batting first and got off to a bad start as Cooper Connolly who was opening for the first time in that game was dismissed for a duck by Shami. But Travis Head and Steve Smith came together and put up a terrific partnership as Australia roared back into the game. Just as they put up a 50 run partnership, Varun Chakravarthy came in and picked up the big wicket of Travis Head. Australia continued going at a good run rate with Labuschagne joining Steven Smith.
Steve Smith completed his half century but Labuschagne was dismissed for 29 by Jadeja as Australia lost the third wicket with 114 on the board. Jadeja continued to wreak havoc as he picked up Inglis and Australia were in some trouble at 144/4. Alex Carey looked in good touch and stitched another partnership with Smith as both the batters consolidated the innings once again.
Steven Smith was dismissed for 73 and Glenn Maxwell failed as Australia lost a few quick wickets. Alex Carey scored 61 and with a few hits from the lower order batters, Australia finished with 264 at the end of the first innings. Shami was the pick of the bowlers for India picking up three wickets while both spinners scalped two wickets each.
India were in early trouble during the chase as Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma fell cheaply and India were in trouble at 43/2. Shreyas Iyer came in and put up a partnership with Kohli. It was the chase master who led the inning beautifully for India and he finished with 84. Iyer departed for 45 but KL Rahul ensured India got the job done as he scored an unbeaten 42. Jadeja scored the winning shot and India reached the Final of the Champions Trophy. Virat Kohli had scored 84 runs and was the player of the match.
