On this day, March 6, 2022: India wraps up the Test in 3 days against Sri Lanka as Jadeja shines with both bat and ball. It was complete dominance and one man in particular had a terrific outing with both bat and ball. India were batting first and put up a mammoth score of 574/8 before the declaration came in. India lost both their openers cheaply but Hanuma Vihari scored a half century and built a partnership along with Kohli. Rishabh Pant smashed 96 before getting dismissed by Lakmal.
Ravindra Jadeja stole the show with the bat as he made an unbeaten 175* as India posted a total of 574 and declared the innings. In reply, Sri Lanka kept losing wickets but Pathum Nissanka scored a valiant half-century. It was Ravindra Jadeja again for India, this time with the ball as he picked up five wickets.
Sri Lanka were bowled out for 174 in the second innings and were well behind in the game. India enforced the follow on and asked Sri Lanka to bat again with such a big deficit. In the third innings, Sri Lanka once again struggled to handle the duo of Ashwin and Jadeja. Karunaratne and Mathews got starts but could not carry on and the same was the case with De Silva. Sri Lankan wicket-keeper Niroshan Dickwella batting lower down the order scored an unbeaten 51 but no other batter supported him and Sri Lanka were bowled out for 178 in the third innings.
Ravi Ashwin picked up four wickets and Jadeja also picked up four wickets as India wrapped up the Test match within three days at Mohali. It was a terrific all-round effort from Jadeja who scored an unbeaten 175* in the first innings and followed that up with a five-wicket haul in the second innings and a 4 wicket haul in the third innings. He was the player of the match and India took an early lead in the series.
