On this day, May 13, 2023: Prabhsimran Singh smashes century as Punjab Kings beat Delhi Capitals by 31 runs. It was the 59th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Punjab Kings were batting first and lost wickets early in the powerplay. PBKS lost three wickets in the powerplay and were in trouble. Prabhsimran Singh played a few good shots but no one supported him as Punjab Kings were behind the game at the end of six overs.
Sam Curran joined Prabhsimran Singh and the duo stitched up a brilliant partnership to take the attack to the opposition. Sam Curran was dismissed for 20 as Punjab Kings were 117/4 but Prabhsimran Singh went past a half century and was fighting a lone battle. Delhi Capitals kept picking up wickets from the other end but Prabhsimran Singh smashed a century to help his side post a total of 167/7 at the end of the first innings. Prabhsimran Singh had given them something to bowl with his brilliant knock.
Chasing the target, Delhi Capitals were off to a flier with Phil Salt and David Warner going all guns blazing. The openers stitched up a fifty run partnership as Delhi dominated the powerplay. Punjab Kings picked up the first wicket with 69 runs on the board. The middle overs belonged to the Delhi Capitals and once both the openers were dismissed, Delhi Capitals collapsed completely.
Delhi Capitals were restricted to 136/8 as Harpreet Brar picked up four wickets and Punjab Kings won the game comfortably. Punjab Kings pulled the game from the jaws of defeat and it was a splendid performance. Prabhsimran Singh was the player of the match for his outstanding knock.
