PBKS will face the Chennai Super Kings in their home ground at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Having won the previous match against the Titans at Mullanpur, the Kings would come in with confidence to face their rivals. Meanwhile, the Super Kings lost their first match against the Royals in Guwahati, and the constant injury concerns have made the win an extremely important one for CSK.
Ahead of the match in Chennai, the PBKS opener Prabhsimran was seen as the Punjab bowler, Yuzvendra Chahal hit for big sixes in the nets. Prabhsimran had a mild start to the tournament as he hit the Gujarat Titans for 37 runs in 28 balls, building a partnership after the quick loss of Priyansh Arya.
Prabhsimran’s wicket was taken by Rashid Khan as Singh helped establish a 78- run partnership with the Sustralian debutant, Connolly Cooper. Cooper then stabilised the innings after the quick wickets of the skipper, Shreyas Iyer, and Shashank Singh. Connolly emerged as the Player of the match by winning the match for his team and making an unbeaten 72 runs of 64 balls.
Prabhsimran, who had a great IPL season last year, made 549 runs last year, with his highest being 91 against LSG.
“Prabh in full flow! 🤌😍”, the post read. The video of Prabhsimran hitting Chahal for big sixes was posted by the PBKS social media team.
PBKS to face CSK on April 3
The Kings will now play against the Super Kings on April 3. In their previous match against CSK in Chepauk last year, Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 4 wickets with just 2 balls to spare, which officially knocked out CSK from the race for the playoffs. Yuzvendra Chahal took 4 wickets in one over, causing CSK to collapse from a strong position of nearly 200 to 190 all out. For CSK, captain Sam Curran played a brilliant knock of 88 off 47 balls (9 fours, 4 sixes) but lacked support as the lower order crumbled under Chahal's spin. Captain Shreyas Iyer (72) and Prabhsimran Singh (54) provided the backbone of the chase. Despite a late flurry of wickets, PBKS reached the target of 191 in the final over.
