India A batter Priyansh Arya and Ruturaj Gaikwad were involved in a bizarre run out leading to the former’s dismissal in clash against Sri Lanka A. Notably, the Indian side, under the captaincy of Tilak Varma is currently touring the island nation for Tri Nation A Series in Sri Lanka 2026. The opening game against the hosts saw visiting skipper Varma winning the toss and inviting the rivals to field first. The Indian squad that consists of several new faces including Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, Anukul Roy, Arshad Khan, Anshul Kamboj, got off to an unexpected start.
Singh was forced to walk back on two runs after being caught out by Sadeera Samarawickrama off a Chamika Karunaratne delivery. Sooryavanshi, on the other hand, who was coming off a historic campaign in the IPL 2026 season, was forced to walk back off just 14 runs. While Priyansh Arya and Gaikwad tried to give the side some stability with their 53-run stand, a bizarre run out ended their partnership following Arya’s dismissal.
Rare of the rarest thing happened there Ruturaj Gaikwad and Priyansh Arya both came on same end. Priyansh didn't take the 2nd run while Rutu took, confusion happened, Ruturaj was about to get out 99% but Wicketkeeper shoes stopped the Priyansh's bat and Rutu got lucky 💀💀 pic.twitter.com/3Spm7BxF95

Priyansh Arya’s brain fade moment leads to dismissal against Sri Lanka A
Ruturaj Gaikwad played the final delivery of the 13th over bowled by Ravindu Fernando towards square and called for a double. Both players ended up quickly completing the single and Gaikwad, who was running towards the danger end, managed to complete the second run as well. However, the Punjab batter took a few steps after completing the single but ended up not running for the double leading to both batters running at the same end and seemingly crossed the crease almost at the same time.
What led to Arya’s dismissal was the fact that he couldn't make it back to the crease in time as his bat got stuck under the wicket-keeper Niroshan Dickwella’s foot while attempting to beat Gaikwad in the race. Fans were left scratching their heads at the fact that even the third umpire overlooked Arya’s bat getting blocked by the Lankan wicketkeeper. He was forced to walk back at 32 runs with four boundaries and one maximum.
