Simply imagine the career setback, when first your career in the great game of cricket comes to suffer a jolt for an act of sheer carelessness and absolute thoughtlessness and second, on account of ill temper. Now consider the damage being double the blow one would have wanted to receive (in the first place) especially since you were involved in an act of ill temper resulting into violence, something that is absolutely contrarian to civilian values and conduct.

Now to put some context to the above- the Cricket Assocation of Pondicherry (also known as the CAP) decided to suspend no fewer than 3 first class cricketers who were registered with it and had been representing the region, having taken the decision on an immediate basis.

Let’s jump further into the matter. Why did such an act even take place in the first place? To that end, it’s important of note that the said Cricket Association found the three now-suspended first class cricketers guilty of having assuaged the main coach of the region’s Under-19 team, Mr. Venkataraman. The said incident, it has been reported, happened December 8, 2025, now last year!

Having said that who are these players and what is their background?

The names of each of the three players is as follows— J. Karthikeyan, A. Aravindaraj and S. Santhosh Kumaran. Rather interestingly, each of the above happened to have represented Pondicherry across Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in the recent years, which as a cricket fan you’d note happen to be the pinnacle of first class domestic cricket in India.

More on the issue

As a matter of fact, cricketer Aravindaraj has even represented the union territory where it came to the last domestic season.

Now, if that’s not a blow then what is?

Going forward till the time the court doesn’t clear the accused of their charges or the accusations that have surfaced, the cricketing trio shall not be permitted to participate in any cricketing contest- whether a series is domestic or in international territories!

That being told

A press release from the part of the cricketing body in Pondicherry happened to state the following:

The trio have been charged with attempt to murder and assault on Venkataraman. A formal charge sheet has been filed by Station House Officer (SHO) Sedurapet Police Station under FIR 100/2025 and the matter is pending before Judicial Magistrate-IV Court Puducherry.” The CAP, in its own capacity, has “suspended the players” from entering any of its said campus and they are prohibited from using any of state association’s facilities.
