There are tragedies. There are huge tragedies and then there are those that tend to bring a nation to a state of a pause given the sheer ravage and destruction that strikes in the wake of their occurrence. A national tragedy, if you like! It could be said and in very serious terms that whatever has happened just recently in Assam has been nothing shy than a national tragedy.

The unprecedented monsoon floods in Assam have claimed 82 lives, left over 1.9 lakh people affected across five districts, and submerged more than 15,400 hectares of crop land as emergency relief and rehabilitation efforts continue.

What these floods have, furthermore led to, is a state of destruction to countless homes and businesses, causing wrecking to even the state of flora and fauna and the wildlife, bringing businesses to a state of standstill in Assam and thus creating an emotional and financial ruckus in the wake of nature’s unshakeable fury. The entire county is experiencing a state of grief which is hard to ignore and even harder to suppress.  

But then it’s often amid such testing times that true benevolence appears and rises to the fore to bring about a difference. And whether that’s form of human help as an act of solidarity amid much ruckus and dismay or in the form of a collective effort, it’s all too good. And it’s all too relevant and critical even.

A noble act in times of duress

So what comes across as a definite great piece of news is the sheer niceness that’s come on the part of the famed Rajasthan Royals, an integral part of the Indian Premier League who have decided to put together a strong, vital and much needed help in the wake of the ceaseless destruction being experienced by the state of Assam!

So the big question is, what have the Rajasthan Royals done?

Here is what is confirmed news: 

The Rajasthan Royals, along with Ranjit Barthakur, have contributed ₹1 crore to the Assam Chief Minister's Relief Fund to support flood relief and rehabilitation efforts across the state.

In times where just about every single penny is of vital and tremendous importance, a sum of INR 1 crore is indeed an outstanding contribution to those in mourning and in urgent need of the same. To that end, what the Rajasthan Royals have done, as the first ever IPL team among all units to contribute and come to Assam’s rescue, is indeed a strong example of standing by those who deserve much support. Now one hopes that the rest too, will follow suit!
