The legend of Jasprit Bumrah, never release ceases to amaze, even if that means whether he is actively for India duties on the ground or having his time away from the pitch by recovering from an injury. As on date, he has picked no fewer than 234 test wickets from just 52 contests. Just 52. Let that number sink in. Moreover, he has 151 wickets from just 91 games in One-Day Internationals for India. And that’s not all; the talented bowler who can easily outfox the best of the batters out there already has 121 T20I wickets for India in the game’s shortest format.
But what separates Bumrah from the rest of his contemporary is a simple fact that he is considered a threat by his opponent, and at the same time, respected by them his craft, hunger to perform, and the passion to excel for India are hallmarks that have made him a great force in motion and one that you dread facing as a batter.

Perhaps that is hardly surprising why some of India’s former cricketers have even gone as far as saying that Jasprit Bumrah, for all that he is all that he brings with the table is an even greater performer than somebody like Virat Kohli, who is a great legend of the game as we know.
Now on his own Virat Kohli packs, a great Punch, his talent is sublime, and his batting has greatness that knows no bounds. The sense of appreciation, respect, and regard that he holds whether it’s in the eyes of a Joe Root or kane Williamson or past eminent grades such as Sachin Tendulkar and Ryan Lara is indeed special. And he shall always stay a great of the game.
But having said that, in the eyes of Ravichandran Ashwin, it’s not Virat Kohli, but Bumrah, who is India’s greatest contributor across formats.
Bumrah combines a great knack for bowling intelligence with his ability to vary his pace and bring in that lethal bounce that make him such a hard bowler to score runs against. He’s taken some amazing wickets at both home and in away conditions and somebody who watched it closely was Ravichandran Ashwin. Perhaps that is why the great former off spinner considers Bumrah as an even greater contributor to India’s winning cause than Virat Kohli.
Rather interestingly, both Kohli and Bumrah when present together in an Indian lineup across formats, have been a sheer joy to watch much to the chagrin of India’s opponents.
Having said that as India prepares in a big way for the 2027 ODI men’s World Cup, it will be crucial to notice what role can Bumrah play for India as his team hopes to lift yet another World Cup crown.
