In the latest update regarding Team India, star batter Rinku Singh is in doubt for the upcoming match against Zimbabwe. Rinku Singh has flown home due to a family emergency and is in doubt for the Super 8 match against Zimbabwe. Rinku was not present at India’s training session at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday on Tuesday evening. India suffered a defeat against South Africa in their first Super 8 match and their next two games against Zimbabwe and West Indies are virtual knockout games for the team.
Rinku has not had the best of tournaments so far with his scores reading 6,1,11*, 6* and 0. He was completely out of form but was India’s preferred player in the lower middle order. This is a huge blow for Team India if he does indeed miss the game against Zimbabwe as despite his poor form, Rinku is known for his big hitting down the order given his overall record in the T20I format.
Another big challenge for India would be to decide the replacement of Rinku Singh. India might likely bring Sanju Samson back in the side but where does he slot in remains a question. He is the likely candidate and Axar Patel is expected to come into the team replacing Washington Sundar.
India will take on Zimbabwe on February 26 while their final group stage match will be against West Indies on March 1. India are in a critical position due to their heavy margin defeat against South Africa. The net run rate is so bad that even two wins will not guarantee them a semi final spot if West Indies beats South Africa. India’s batting has been under pressure and especially struggled in the previous match and they will be hoping that the team will be able to put up a good performance.
