During Match 34 of IPL 2026 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, a painful and dramatic incident occurred when Sai Sudharsan accidentally struck Suyash Sharma on his left hand during a follow-through. The incident happened as Sudharsan was in the midst of a record-breaking innings, eventually scoring 91 runs off 51 balls. Sudharsan attempted a high-velocity straight drive, aiming for a "super six" directly back past the bowler.

The ball came off the bat with immense power. Suyash Sharma, in his follow-through after delivering a leg-break, instinctively stuck out his non-bowling (left) hand to protect himself or catch the ball. The ball hit Suyash's hand flush. He immediately doubled over in pain, dropping to the turf. The GT dugout and RCB players both showed immediate concern as the medical team rushed out. Suyash received extensive treatment on the field. Replays showed the ball hitting the fleshy part of his palm near the base of the thumb. After several minutes of icing and taping, he attempted a practice delivery but was seen grimacing. He had bowled 1.2 overs and conceded 16 runs (economy of 12.00) at the time of the injury. He later came on the field and took the wicket of the GT skipper Shubman Gill who was batting at 32.
