Samson was traded from the Rajasthan Royals with Ravindra Jadeja to CSK. Although he fumbled at the start of the season, he scored two centuries this season already, with 115* against DC and 101* against MI today. CSK batsmen once again had a mini collapse tonight at Wankhede, but Sanju as a saviour stood tall with his willow, scoring an unbeaten 101 off 54 balls, with this Sanju becoming the 9th batter to have multiple centuries in a single IPL season.
After CSK’s biggest win against MI by 103 runs, in the post-match presentation, Samson said that the character shown by the youngsters of the team to make such a comeback after 3 loses is commendable. He also made it clear that to him, the team comes first, and it is his responsibility to understand the situation of the game and play accordingly.
“With the experience I have, the team comes first. It is my responsibility to understand the game. It’s a young team, but the attitude we’ve shown after three losses is commendable. Every game is important; we need to be ready and enjoy. It’s all new for me, so much yellow in Wankhede.”
“I am grateful to play for this franchise”- Sanju Samson
A lone warrior standing Samson, was the reason CSK posted 207 runs amidst the collapse. Mumbai Indians were bowled out for 104 in 19 overs, giving CSK one of their highest margin of wins against arch-rivals MI. Although Akeal Hossein was exceptional with the ball today, along with Noor Ahmad, the main pomp and show was Samson, and rightfully, he received the Player of the Match.
After receiving the award, he said that he is grateful to be playing for CSK. His attitude and calmness are very well vibing with CSK teammates. He earlier too said that CSK players and management have no attitude, being one of the most successful franchises, almost everyone is very well behaved and cool and calm, giving credit to MS Dhoni, whose attitude was imbibed by all. He cited that this is the reason why he settled quickly in the franchise and feels comfortable, as he has the same attitude towards the game.
He said, “Really feels great to score a century at Wankhede against MI. It is definitely special for the team and me. I thought it was important for a settled batsman to end with falling wickets. So, the responsibility I have and have been shown to me by the team, it is important that I understand the game and follow my game plan accordingly. I am very grateful to play for this franchise”
With this win and a huge boost to NRR, CSK leaps to 5th spot in the table with 6 points, and MI lingers at the 8th spot with only 4 points.
