What one usually remembers is just how far Mahendra Singh Dhoni eventually came in his career having begun from humble beginnings as this small town boy from Ranchi in Jharkhand, who not many even knew about. What one also remembers about Mahendra Singh Dhoni RS towering sixes, his unflinching ability to keep cool under pressure, his great resolve as a captain to lead the team during pressure situations and the man with the Midhas touch. But what one does not know is that he may never have played in the first place it not been for the wise, and the calmness of a man, we know as Dada Sourav Ganguly.

The subject of Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a rather intriguing one and instantly whenever his name is taken, whether in cricketing corridors or outside those, there is a sense of euphoria and excitement that the name still commands.

As a man of fact, the first person from the Indian men’s national cricket team perspective who noticed Mahendra Singh Dhoni was Sourav Ganguly and no one else. Highly appreciated fact that it was under Dada’s leadership that the great Dhoni first made his national appearance for the country. He was first put under observation of Ganguly’s leadership, and it was Sourav Ganguly who observed him closely to see his readiness whether he was there to play for India or not.

As a matter of fact, for the first 10 days before Dhoni eventually got to make his debut. It was Sourav Ganguly, who had been observing him in terms of his readiness to serve the country, whether he was ready to play or make his debut just yet or not. A subject that Ganguly himself brought to everyone’s notice during a recent explanation on a podcast appearance with Raj Shamani. Ganguly shared that he himself went to Jamshedpur to see Dhoni in action.

And when he saw him in live action, he was simply bowled over. He was one of a kind as all of the cricketing world later found out. The rest, as they say, is history.
