Punjab Kings batter Shashank Singh has denied allegations of assault and wrongful confinement after an FIR was registered against him, his father Shailesh Singh, and their driver following a complaint by a domestic staff member in Bhopal. Responding to the accusations, Singh maintained that neither he nor his family had physically assaulted the complainant and insisted the allegations were false.
Speaking to the media, Shashank said, "No, we didn't hold him hostage. It is true that he arrived claiming to be a cook, but he wasn't a cook at all. He didn't know how to cook; he was just here to have fun, taking videos and photos, and even going into my room." He further claimed that the man's conduct had raised suspicions, adding, "Since he was doing things like that, I suspect he came with the intention of stealing. We are very fortunate that, from what we've checked so far, nothing has been stolen."
The 34- year-old player also revealed that the staff member's phone allegedly contained videos and photographs of the family's residence. "It is true that his phone contained videos and photos of the house, so my mother had him delete them because they were very private," he said. According to the cricketer, although his sister suggested calling the police by dialling 100 after they caught the man taking photos, they eventually let him go after he pleaded with them.
In the FIR, the PBKS batter stated, "The police haven't approached us so far." Rejecting the allegations of violence, he added, "Anyone who knows me knows that physical altercation is completely out of the question for me. I hesitate even to use abusive language, so I certainly couldn't do something like that." Police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
FIR registered against Shashank Singh, father and driver over domestic staff member's complaint
Punjab Kings batter Shashank Singh has found himself at the centre of a controversy after an FIR was registered against him, his father Shailesh Singh, a retired IPS officer, and their family driver in Bhopal over allegations made by a domestic cook. The complaint was lodged by Vipendra Singh Tomar, who had joined the Singh family's residence as a cook on June 25.
According to the FIR, Tomar alleged that he was verbally abused over the food he prepared and was assaulted after expressing his desire to leave the job. He further claimed that his mobile phone was snatched, he was wrongfully confined inside the house, threatened, and prevented from contacting anyone. The complainant also alleged that he sustained injuries during the incident and later approached Ratibad Police Station to file a complaint.
The FIR names Shashank Singh, his father and their driver as accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation is currently underway. However, the PBKS player has categorically denied all allegations. He claimed the complainant had falsely presented himself as a cook and instead spent time taking videos and photographs inside the family's residence, including private rooms.
Shashank alleged that the employee's behaviour raised suspicions and denied any physical assault or wrongful confinement. He maintained that neither he nor his family mistreated the complainant and said the police had not yet contacted them regarding the case. The matter remains under police investigation, and no conclusions have been reached regarding the allegations or the defence put forward by Singh and his family.
