Rajasthan Royals skipper Riyan Parag underwent a shoulder surgery and shared the health update via social media. With this, Parag brought an end to a two-year long suffering with shoulder discomfort that impacted his cricket commitments. Notably, Parag was forced to skip a couple of games in the IPL 2026 to address the concern, before returning to action during the business end of the tournament. Not only this, but due to the injury, the 24-year-old was ruled out of the India A squad after being named the vice-captain of the team.
Parag will now focus on his rehabilitation and is expected to undergo fitness assessments at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru before returning to future domestic and international assignments. The Assam batter took to social media to share updates on the surgery and revealed his current mindset during the recovery phase.
“Well, the shoulder finally won. For everyone who’s been asking, the surgery is done and went well. The past two years have tested me in ways I never expected. There were good days, frustrating days, and days when simply getting through a game was a challenge. But I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way," Parag wrote on Instagram sharing a picture from the hospital bed.
"Now comes a different challenge- recovery, rehab and patience. I’ll be back doing what I love soon. See you on the other side," he added.
Riyan Parag’s campaign in IPL 2026 season
Parag played a total of 14 games in the recently-finished season of the Indian Premier League, and ended up with a total of 309 runs with an average of 23.77 and a strike rate of 157.65. Under his captaincy, the side finished third in the standings, and were knocked out of the tournament after losing to the Gujarat Titans in Mullanpur. In a few games, the cricketer got off to a great start but failed to convert them.
Parag’s injury affected his national ambitions too as he was named the vice-captain of the India A tour. However, after being forced to withdraw owing to injury concerns, he was replaced by Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has already made strong impressions with his century and a half-century in the first two games of the tour.
