India all-rounder Shreyanka Patil pulled off a stunning blinder to dismiss Rameen Shamim in a crucial T20 World Cup 2026 clash on Sunday, June 14. The Women in Blue opened their campaign of the marquee tournament against neighbours and arch-rivals Pakistan at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side won the toss and decided to put the score on the board first.

While the Indian side got off to a slightly disappointing start, a 44-ball 68 by Smriti Mandhana, followed by skipper Kaur’s 35-ball 36, and Richa Ghosh’s quickfire 17-ball 34, the reigning ODI champions were able to put 170 on the board with the loss of six wickets, their highest ever T20I score against Pakistan. After dominating the field in the first innings, the Indian women continued their momentum in the second innings, and quickly sent Pakistani batters to the dug out one after the other.

On the fourth ball of the 15th over, Patil pulled off a stunning catch to send Rameen Shamim back to the hut at four runs. Shree Charani bowled an outside off delivery, to which the batter responded by trying to reach for it. However, the ball ended up moving to the outside edge to the backward point, where Patil dived perfectly to her right to complete the catch with both hands.

India Bundle Pakistan Out at 106 to Record Biggest Win

The Indian Women who opened their campaign against the Women in Green, ended up bundling the rivals out at just 106 to record a 64-run win to begin the season on a high note. In a decent batting show put forward by the Indian Women, Shafali Verma put up six runs in five balls. While the side found it challenging to get stability on one end of the crease, vice captain Mandhana held her ground and came up with a much-needed fifty for the team. However, players such as Jemimah Rodrigues, Bharti Fulmali, Deepti Sharma and Shreyanaka Patil couldn’t add much value with the bat.

In return, as Fatima Sana and Co. walked in to chase the total, the Indian bowling unit led by Deepti Sharma wreaked havoc right from the beginning. Sharma not only recorded a fifer but also became the leading wicket taker in WT20Is with 166. Though Pak opener Muneeba Ali tried to give the side some stability, her 41 (35) failed to help the side cruise past the victory line. With this, the Indian Women successfully wrapped the game up in 17 overs and bundled the side out at just 106 to record a 64-run win.
