Shubman Gill's tour of England brought him a memorable experience off the cricket pitch when he met the legendary 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer at the Wimbledon Championships on July 10. Their encounter at Center Court quickly became a hot topic, with videos of the two icons chatting making waves on social media.

Gill had the honor of attending the men's singles semi-finals as a guest in the prestigious Royal Box, joining the ranks of only three other Indian cricket captains - Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma to receive such recognition. The 26-year-old enjoyed the match alongside Tendulkar and his wife Anjali, witnessing Jannik Sinner's impressive victory over Novak Djokovic, which secured him a spot in his second consecutive Wimbledon final.

Just days before his Wimbledon appearance, Gill was already in the spotlight during his visit to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on July 5. As a VIP guest of Mercedes-AMG Petronas, he had exclusive access to the paddock and team areas. He mingled with members of the Formula One community and even spent some time in the Mercedes garage, making his first F1 event an unforgettable experience.

India Turn Attention To England ODIs As Senior Stars Return

Focus will now shift back to cricket as India are scheduled to take part in a three-match ODI series against England from July 14. The first game will be hosted at Edgbaston in Birmingham while the second will be hosted at Cardiff on July 16. The third game will be held at Lord's, London, on July 19.

India's ODI squad has seen the return of many veterans in this series. Rohit Sharma will be back in action after scoring 16, 48 and 79 in the Afghanistan series, despite having a hamstring injury in the early part of the IPL season. Virat Kohli has returned after overcoming the injury which prevented him from participating in the Afghanistan series and he has started training in England. Jasprit Bumrah is also back to lead the pace attack after being rested from recent white-ball commitments.

For Gill, this assignment holds a special meaning as he debuts in England as India's ODI captain. The series will serve as a valuable early glimpse into how India's seasoned players mesh with the rising talents as they gear up for the 2027 World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. With Rohit and Kohli boasting over 580 ODI appearances combined, while Bumrah's control with the ball remains central to India's long-term plans in overseas conditions.
