Indian batter Shubman Gill has made a big decision after the conclusion of the third One Day match between India and New Zealand. This comes just days after India’s 1-2 ODI series loss to New Zealand, the India Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill has decided against taking a break and will go and play for Punjab in their next Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra in Rajkot, starting Thursday. Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is also set to play for Saurashtra in the same fixture. Shubman Gill who played in all three matches of the recently concluded series but has opted to return to red-ball cricket immediately. Having been dropped from the T20I side, Shubman Gill will have no T20 cricket until the start of IPL and the right hand batter is keen to focus on red ball cricket with tougher assignments coming up.
Shubman Gill will be a massive boost for Punjab who are currently ranked sixth in Group B as they attempt to qualify for the knockout round of the tournament. Punjab have three matches left in the Ranji Trophy and require outright wins to keep their hopes alive.
This news of availability of Gill was reported by PTI “Shubman decided against taking any break post ODI series and it took him eight hours to reach Rajkot from Indore as there aren’t any direct flights, available,” a source close to the Punjab team told PTI.
This upcoming game will be Gill’s return to red-ball cricket after a neck injury during the South Africa Test series. His addition will make Punjab’s batting lineup stronger. Shubman Gill came under scrutiny after the ODI series loss but the Indian ODI and Test captain is keen to make a mark and improve his game in the domestic circuit ahead of the bigger challenges.
