The Spain cricket team scripted history on Friday after defeating Finland by eight wickets in a T20 World Cup 2028 Europe Sub-Regional Qualifier. After this match they completed their 21st consecutive win in men’s international cricket. The win pushed them past Australia’s long-standing mark of 20 successive wins which was a record that had been since 2003. Spain cricket team's winning streak began in February 2023 against the Isle of Man in Cartagena. Since then the Spanish side has beaten a string of European associates teams like Jersey, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Greece and Finland among them. They beat Finland earlier today where they managed to restrict them to a modest total and chased it down with eight wickets and few overs remaining.

Ricky Ponting’s Australian side set the previous benchmark during a dominant stretch that mixed one-day internationals with Tests. It included an unbeaten run through the 2003 World Cup in the final win over India in Johannesburg, followed by three Test victories against the West Indies. Spain have now gone past them and they have done it entirely in the shortest format.

Spain gained T20I status alongside all members in 201i and they have held a phenomenal record among all Associate teams. Featuring in 50 T20Is since January 2019, Spain have won 41 matches and suffered only eight defeats. They are currently ranked 28th in the world.
