
Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team won third ICC Men's T20 World Cup after defeating New Zeland in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 8th March 2026. Suryakumar Yadav, who was under the radar for India's performance at the Group Stages and then the defeat against South Africa outclassed all questions pointed at him. He not only led the side, but also became third Indian captain after Mahendra Singh Dhoni (2007) and Rohit Sharma (2024) to lift the glorious trophy.
Interestingly, right after India won the T20 World Cup, the celebrations began all over. One thing, that caught everyone's eyes was Suryakumar Yadav's gesture post winning the T20 World Cup. Rather than celebrating, he directly went to the pitch and touch it, and then touching his forehead. Fans around the globe were interested to know why the captain did that gesture.

Recently in an interview, Suryakumar Yadav revealed why he touched the pitch. He said that this pitch has given him everything and hence the gesture. While speaking with NDTV, he said, The feeling is very good. As soon as we won, I had it in my heart that the thing which has given me everything, my earth, the cricket pitch, which has given me so much, touching it and applying it on my forehead was very important."
Earlier in the tournament, Suryakumar Yadav led from the front and won all-important man of the match award against the United States of America. When the whole team was struggling to score runs, he stood tall and helped India win the T20 World Cup 2026.
