Gujarat Titans edged past Delhi Capitals in a thrilling last-over finish in their TATA IPL 2026 match. Sanjay Bangar and Piyush Chawla analysed the tense final over involving David Miller, Vipraj Nigam, and Kuldeep Yadav, while also reflecting on Rashid Khan’s decisive spell, KL Rahul’s innings, and Shubman Gill’s composed knock.
Sanjay Bangar spoke about the closing moments from the match:
“You could sense how the situation unfolded when Vipraj Nigam came in. The game wasn’t going to be about Miller all the way, but once Vipraj was dismissed, the responsibility was entirely on Miller. Kuldeep Yadav handled that particular ball well and ensured Miller was on strike. Miller then produced a brilliant shot, a 106-metre six over long-off. However, there was a bit of indecision towards the end. Initially, he looked like he would go for the run on the second-last ball but then decided against it. That hesitation may have cost Delhi Capitals a chance, because the game could have gone into a Super Over depending on how the final ball played out. That indecision might have ultimately cost Delhi Capitals a couple of points.”
On Shubman Gill’s knock:
“Shubman Gill’s innings was well supported from the other end, especially with Jos Buttler playing aggressively, which meant Gill didn’t get much strike early in the Powerplay. He was 8 off his first eight balls and had the chance to settle in. He then built two important partnerships and played key shots when it mattered, including sweeping Kuldeep Yadav for six. He was able to bat deep and play the big shots when required. That kind of innings helps settle any doubts a batter might have, and Gill anchoring the innings at the top of the order makes a massive difference.”
Piyush Chawla reflected on Rashid Khan’s spell:
“We all know what Rashid Khan is capable of on his day, he can trouble any batting line-up. Gujarat Titans needed him to step up, especially while defending this total on a good batting wicket and a small ground, and he delivered. He was right on the money from the very first ball. The way he dismissed Sameer Rizvi was particularly impressive. He bowled several leg-spinners earlier, and when Rizvi walked in, a batter with strong numbers against spin this season, he showed him the slip, making him expect a leg-break, but deceived him with the wrong’ un. It was a beautiful delivery, right on target, beating the bat through the gap.”
On KL Rahul’s innings:
“At that stage, those runs were crucial and KL Rahul ensured the required rate never went completely out of reach for Delhi Capitals. He started steadily, around 26 off his first 20 balls, but then accelerated well. Having played such an innings, he would probably be disappointed with himself because when you bat like that, you want to finish the game for your team. Unfortunately for him, that didn’t happen.”
