David Miller was seen to be in despair after the match as he couldn’t connect the last ball to see his side through in the game. Miller couldn’t believe what happened in the dying moments of the game and was comforted with a warm hug by the Delhi Capitals Head Coach, Hemang Badani.

The viewers on X platform gave mixed reactions to the defeat, with some viewers appreciating the effort and some criticising his decision to turn down the run. David Miller and his side were cruising to victory as they held the match well within their grasp. They required 13 to win off the last over and with Vipraj Nigam and a fiery David Miller, another win was on the cards for the Capitals. However, the Gujarat Titans turned the tide in their favour with the wicket of Vipraj Nigam, and with some interesting calls from David Miller, the Gujarat Titans managed to steal the 2 points.

Miller’s late blitz turns to agony as costly call seal one-run defeat for Delhi Capitals

The Delhi Capitals were off to a steady start in the chase as Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul put up a fine opening partnership to lay the foundation for the chase. After the wicket of Nissanka, KL Rahul got to his maiden fifty of the season by smashing 20 runs off the over of Prasidh Krishna. Then the Gujarat Titans fought back strongly with the wickets of Nitish Rana and Sameer Rizvi off the bowling of Rashid Khan.

Despite David Miller walking in to bat at number 5, he walked off the field due to a hand injury after playing a few balls. KL Rahul managed to keep the hopes of the Capitals alive with some sensational batting but later with the wickets of Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs, the chase became increasingly difficult.

Then walked out David Miller, once again in the innings but this time, he was filled with intent as he started to find boundaries with ease. David Miller scored a breathtaking 41 off just 20 balls, including 3 fours and 3 sixes. The Capitals required 36 to win off the last 2 overs and David Miller was in urgent need of boundaries. Facing Mohammed Siraj in the 19th over, he smashed him for 17 runs off 3 balls and brought the game back into the grasp of the Delhi Capitals.

With Prasidh Krishna bowling the last over, the equation came down to 8 off 3 balls with Miller on strike. He launched Prasidh over long off for a massive six and the Capitals needed just 2 off 2. Miller turned down a comfortable single off the second last ball, believing that he could finish the game but he ended up missing the last ball and Kuldeep Yadav was run out. The Gujarat Titans won the match by 1 run, to secure their first 2 points in the tournament.
