Rajasthan Royals batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was seen flaunting the cap he got autographed by Virat Kohli. The Royals recorded a seven-wicket win over the Lucknow Super Giants in their last home game for the season in Jaipur on May 19. Sooryavanshi, who has emerged a rising batting superstar over the last two seasons, came up with a brilliant knock of 93 runs to help the side chase down 221. The 15-year-old was not only awarded the Player of the Match, but is now also at the top of the Orange Cap race.

Following the win, Sooryavanshi was spotted wearing the cap he got signed from Virat Kohli earlier this season. The Royals hosted the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Guwahati on April 10, where the RR batter smashed a 15-ball fifty, equalling his own record of joint second-fastest half century in the history of the tournament. Following the game, the legendary Indian batter, Kohli, signed Sooryavanshi’s cap and left a note that read, “Dear Vaibhav, well done.”

I don’t really see too much: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi after securing top spot on Orange Cap leaderboard

Sooryavanshi now has the most runs in the season with 579* and is currently seeded on the top of the Orange Cap leaderboard. During the game on Tuesday, he also became the youngest ever batter to score 500 runs in a single IPL season, surpassing Rishabh Pant’s 2018 record. Moreover, he is also the youngest player to hit 50 maximums in a single season. He is just seven sixes short of breaking Chris Gayle’s record of 60 sixes from 2012 with Rajasthan still having one league-game remaining.

During the post-match ceremony, he said that he doesn’t let anything get to his head. “I don’t really see too much, I don’t read newspapers and all, so I don’t think too much about it. I just think that this is only the start. If my career becomes long and I play for a long time, people will say many more things. My focus should just remain on the game and I should complete my journey.”

In their final league-stage game this season, the Royals will lock horns with the Mumbai Indians on Sunday, May 24.
