Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has once again missed the cut to make it to the squad as India benched him in the T20I series finale against Ireland. Fans were utterly disappointed that the teenage sensation didn’t get a chance today and much of the blame has gone to Gautam Gambhir. Some of the viewers claim that if India won the first match of the series, then Sooryavanshi would have gotten a chance in the starting squad. Experts claim that he is the best T20 batter in the world right now and to not give him a chance is criminal. In fact, India have two other debutants today in the form of Suryansh Shegde and Prince Yadav coming in for Washington Sundar and Prasidh Krishna.

The decision to bench Vaibhav Sooryavanshi created discontent among the fans but the selection dilemma that India would have faced would be regarding who to drop. Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson were instrumental in India’s T20I world cup winning campaign earlier this year. Ishan Kishan has been in sensational form in white-ball cricket over the last few months and he cannot be benched as well. Some of the fans claim that he could have been given a chance over Tilak Varma in this game, but those criticisms seem to be merely desperate. The Rajasthan Royals star batter could be given a start against England in the upcoming series and that would be the first sight of the teenager playing for India.

Fans slam Gautam Gambhir for Sooryavanshi’s omission

The fans on X pinned the blame on Gautam Gambhir and dirty politics as they expected him to feature in the squad in both the games of the series. Shreyas Iyer also received some criticism regarding the decision to bench the teenage sensation. Here are some of the reactions on X:

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi would be looking forward to the England series as he could potentially get his first cap in that T20I series. The Rajasthan Royals batter will be slightly disappointed that he didn’t get an opportunity in his first series but he would be hoping to make an impact when the time comes.
