Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is on the verge of creating another record as he is set to become the youngest cricketer to debut for India. On Saturday, June 6, Sooryavanshi got his maiden national call-up as the BCCI announced squads for India’s forthcoming tours to Ireland and England as well as the 2026 Asian Games. He is already the youngest player to be selected for team India. Notably, Sooryavanshi had already announced his arrival in the global cricketing scenario with remarkable campaigns in the IPL 2025 and 2026 season, and his selection for national duty doesn’t come as a major surprise.

The 15-year-old’s father reflected on his selection and said, “it is a huge moment for the family. A very big dream has been fulfilled.” Sooryavanshi’s father Sanjeev, also talked about the constant comparisons with legendary cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and Sir Don Bradman. Sanjeev said that the comparison between his son and the cricketing stalwarts is not right as he is right at the beginning of his career.

“It's not right to compare Vaibhav to Sachin or Bradman. These players have performed at a very high level over a long period. Right now, Vaibhav is not even equal to the dust of their feet. Such comparisons should not be made,” Sanjeev Sooryavanshi told NDTV.

He wants to play all three formats- Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s father reveals cricketer’s ambitions

Sanjeev Sooryavanshi also revealed the ambitions of the cricketer and said that he wants to play in all three formats. “He wants to play in all formats. You've seen him play aggressively in the IPL, but he has also scored 332 runs in a 50-over match. He likes red-ball cricket equally,” said Sanjeev Sooryavanshi.

Talking about Vaibhav’s power-hitting skills and tendency to hit sixes off the first ball against big bowlers, Sanjeev said, “Whenever he went to play, older boys used to call him a kid. When I pointed out a big bowler from the opposition, he would go after that bowler and hit a six. Vaibhav used to say, "Papa, if I hit him for a six, the other bowlers won't dominate me." It's his own strategy. He wants people to recognise him by his game, not judge him by his age.”
