Rajasthan Royals’ youngest superstar Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who recorded a historic campaign in the IPL 2026 failed to make a mark in his India A debut. The 15-year-old could score only 14 runs in his first game as an India A member in the clash against Sri Lanka A on Tuesday, June 9. Notably, the Men in Blue, under the captaincy of Tilak Varma are traveling to Sri Lanka for a Tri-Nation Series. In the opening game, the Indian side posted a competitive total of 277 for the neighbours, owing to a brilliant performance by the middle order after the openers failed to make a mark.
Sooryavanshi, who bagged multiple awards in the IPL 2026, including the Orange Cap, could only score 14 runs after being caught out by Sahan Arachchige off a Mohamed Shiraz delivery. Needless to say, fans and experts were expecting more from the teenage sensation who has already made his mark on the global stage with his extravagant skills. Nevertheless, Sooryavanshi has just started and there is more for him in store. Apart from him, players such as Prabhsimran Singh also couldn’t do much and was forced to walk back at just 2 runs in the game.

India A, Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A squads for Tri Nation A Series 2026
With the Tri Nation A series, several youngsters who delivered remarkable performances in the IPL 2026 have been given a chance to prove and challenge themselves in the slightly longer format. Needless to say, this particular format is a step closer to entering the senior national team. Tilak Varma has been handed the responsibility to lead the side, which would certainly help him grow on the senior side. Riyan Parag was originally set to don the vice-captaincy hat, but an injury that he picked in the IPL sidelined him and Ruturaj Gaikwad was called in as replacement.
Gaikwad, who leads the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, had an underwhelming season in the T20 tournament, but in the opening game of the ongoing series, he posted a crucial 101-run knock to help the side push beyond the 250-run mark. Here’s how India’s squad looks for the competition.
