“Look I don’t believe in all this peaking at the right time!”
With these clearly expressed words and in that always-clear-tone, India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir made something amply clear in the aftermath of India’s much vaunted and keenly sought victory over the usually dangerous but highly unpredictable West Indies team.
In what was a wonderful win, one ardently fought for - and achieved- by the Indian cricket team, the hosts overcame the daunting ask in what was a virtual quarter final contest against the West Indies.
Gambhir, who took avid note of several exceptional performances on the part of his team, made another thing resoundingly clear as he began addressing the media in the contest’s aftermath.
He would further add, “You’ve got to win every game that you represent for your country. It’s as simple as that!”
And giving those assembled at the Eden Gardens more clear perspective on the nature of tournaments like these- the ongoing T20 World Cup- Gautam Gambhir would further add something refreshingly simple and true- “It’s a short tournament. It’s a tournament that comes and goes very quickly!”
Which also brings us to the realisation that how quickly have India bounced back and done so rather emphatically in the wake of their defeat suffered at the hands of the Proteas. After being battered at Ahmedabad and seeing their net run rate dip, the Indian team latched on well to the opportunity of giving Zimbabwe a smashing and that’s what they actually did very recently.
Following their big run making that saw them make over 250, Team India would collect another useful and timely win against the West Indies.

Everyone right now is full praise of Sanju Samson and truth be told, that’s understandable as well given the belligerent right hander’s gritty and valuable unbeaten 97 run knock.
