If Day 1 of Mohali Test between India and Sri Lanka was bad for the visitors, the Day 2 was worse. After Rishabh Pant had taken the game away from their neighbors, Ravindra Jadeja put the final nail in the coffin with a blistering century on Saturday. The home side posted a mammoth total of 574 runs on board at IS Bindra Stadium with Jadeja (175* off 228) wreaking havoc in the middle.
Sri Lanka’s day of misery was summed up during one of the moments in second session. In the 125th over of the innings, the shoulders of fielding side were already down. However, when they finally got an opportunity to get the breakthrough, they made a complete mess of the chance.
Did that just happen in Mohali?
It all happened when Jadeja nudged the ball of Vishwa Fernando towards mid-wicket region. He called for a quick double and Shami did return for the second run, with some hesitance. And although he continued to come back towards non-striker’s end, the slight misunderstanding was enough to put Jadeja off as he cancelled his plans of completing the second run.
Well, because of this mix-up, both Jadeja and Shami found themselves towards the bowler’s end. All the Sri Lankan players were aware of this, barring the two that mattered – fielder and bowler. Firstly, the throw came at the wrong end towards the bowler Vishwa Fernando.
And while there was still lot of time to get the throw back to wicketkeeper, it was too late before Fernando realized what was going between the 22 yards. The chance was gone and there was salt added to the wound, much to the disappointment of Sri Lankan fans. Comedy of errors at its very best.

As it turned out, the visitors could never break the partnership between Jadeja and Shami and India’s innings only ended when captain Rohit Sharma decided to declare the innings.
