
Rajasthan Royals are taking on Chennai Super Kings in their opening match of the season and they have opted to bowl first in cloudy conditions. Right arm pacer Brijesh Sharma is making his IPL debut with Rajasthan Royals and it has been an incredible journey for the youngster. After impressing in the Bengal T20 league, Rajasthan Royals brought Brijesh at his base price of Rs 30 lakhs during the IPL 2026 auction.
Who Is Brijesh Sharma?
Brijesh is originally from Udhampur and moved to Bengal for better opportunities. He featured in the Bengal Pro T20 League, where he took 11 wickets in seven matches, averaging under 18, and finished in the tournament's top wicket-takers. This performance made the scouts look at him and he was rewarded with Rajasthan Royals picking him in the IPL Auction.
Brijesh Sharma has represented Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) in Under-19 and Under-25 national tournaments.
He moved out of Jammu and Kashmir for better opportunities and more exposure and represented Unique Sports Club in Delhi and subsequently shifted to Bengal, where he played domestic cricket and did extremely well in the Bengal Pro T20 League.
After getting picked up in the IPL auction for 30 lakhs Brijesh said “I'm 27 years of age, I come from a humble family background, and my father's hard work as a labourer over the years has paid off. My friends have also been a great source of support. Some of them helped me financially and emotionally through all my bad times, whenever I faced problems and self-doubt. They all trusted me. I would like to thank my family, coaches, friends for all this. I did not have that much belief in myself as much as they all did,"
It is a proud day for Brijesh Sharma who is set to make his IPL debut with Rajasthan Royals. The 27 year old right arm pacer will be bowling alongside some international superstars with the likes of Nandre Burger and Jofra Archer. Brijesh Sharma is a right arm medium pacer and can also be handy with the bat. He will be looking to make an impact straightaway in the IPL. Brijesh was also picked up in the Auction having not made his Bengal debut in the domestic circuit.
